What are the kitchen trends for 2023? Here are a few we think you’ll love!
Following kitchen design trends can be risky business. You are spending a lot on your kitchen renovation budget, and there is a fine line between having a space that is contemporary and one that will stand the test of time. No one wants to have to update their kitchen every year or even every 10 years! You need your kitchen to be current and classic, so we decided to pull together a list of 2023 kitchen trends that we think will be timeless and practical. These are the 2023 kitchen ideas for people that want a stylish space but who also want a kitchen that will be just as beautiful today as it is 6 years from now.
Porcelain slab countertops are one of the hottest countertop trends of this year. Durable, versatile and of the highest quality, porcelain gives quartz and granite a run for their money. More and more we are seeing people choose porcelain for their countertops. There are a lot of benefits to porcelain but a few main ones are that they are harder than almost any other option and they can come in a plethora of options.

Matte Black Kitchen
A black kitchen design might not be for everyone, but if you like to make a statement in your interior design, it might be for you! This year we are seeing matte black kitchens rise in popularity. A matte black finish is a flat powder coating that looks modern and high end. We are seeing matte black cabinets, faucets, lighting and so much more are popping up on Instagram and in design magazines. We won’t say it’s an easy design choice, but for those that are willing and have the right space, it could be a great choice.
The first thing to keep in mind is the natural light you have in your space. Obviously going with black is going to make a room seem…well, darker. So you really want to make sure you have ample windows and light to balance the dark space, otherwise your kitchen will start to feel dark and gloomy, and no one wants that. The other thing you’ll want to do is complement your matte black design elements with contrasting tones, usually white or very light shades.
Maybe doing an all matte black kitchen seems a bit extreme to you, well you could try going half black or incorporating matte black details and finishings.
With design roots in the traditional English style kitchen, freestanding kitchens are a top trend for 2023. This classic design is having a new birth and making its way into our Instagram feeds, design magazines and even TV (did anyone watch the deVol kitchen show?!). Instead of fully fitting a kitchen with custom cabinets, why not add freestanding furniture to your space to add character and English charm to your kitchen design? Whether it’s a freestanding kitchen island or a fully freestanding kitchen, with no built in elements, this trend is one of our favorites for this year!
There are several benefits to going with freestanding elements in you kitchen. Firstly, it’s a more affordable option than having something custom built for your kitchen. You also get a lot more flexibility, you can change out your kitchen island or move it if you need to. Lastly, going with a freestanding element is going to make it easier to update a kitchen design more often.
You can have your sink or stove built into your freestanding kitchen for practicality and style.
Changing your kitchen lighting is one of the easiest ways to update your kitchen. This year people are going bold with statement pendants and light fixtures for their kitchens. This trend makes your kitchen lighting a centerpiece in your space and will instantly update it for 2023. You could go mid-century modern, contemporary or classic, just find a piece that is architectural and unique.
Two-Tone Kitchen Cabinets
Instantly update your kitchen with a two-tone kitchen cabinet look . Whether you choose two tone kitchen cabinets or two pops of color interspersed throughout the kitchen, a two tone kitchen will make a statement in 2023 and beyond. You can go for a classic look like gray and white or a bolder choice like black and white. You can’t go wrong with this stunning kitchen design choice!
Hidden Kitchen Hoods
For the last several years we’ve seen people make their hoods a design feature or focal point in their kitchen, but in 2023 we are seeing hoods incorporated into kitchen design so you hardly notice them. It’s a great design choice, and a practical one too. Instead of having your extractor hood out and obvious in your kitchen layout, blend it into your kitchen design by building it into a wall or with using a paint color to conceal it.
There’s nothing new about having a pantry in your kitchen design, but in 2023 people are prioritizing a functional and practical pantry. This means a walk-in space that not only has storage for all your staples, but also a workspace and place to keep your small appliances. We love this trend because can you ever have too much counter-space and storage? No! So if you have the space, we definitely recommend including a dream pantry into your kitchen!
